Yikes is right I just found a pip a day early for lockdown and its on the wrong end and hit a vein. I started a thread about it hoping to get some advice.
Mine are all do Saturday too. (my three ducks and I think 10 turkeys) just did lockdown 7 am on Wednesday morning and had a pip. It was at the right end but SO early and had been in the turner the whole time. Hope it does ok... at work now (yay graveshift) so we'll see if there is any progress this morning.
just lost two piped but didnt get out the shell seens so hard, i got more in lockdown 75 on humidity what else can i do to help them.how long does it normally take from pip to hatch. before i should worry
Ducks can take a long time from what I have been reading. jnkir7 sorry for your losses aussieheelr What is going on with all these early birds? Do you think they know its Easter?
Update on Isis: She is still moving inside the egg but has made no progress. I expected this with her pipping on the wrong end so this morning before work I created part of a zip for her without touching the membrane to see if that will help her along. There are still small veins running along her inner membrane so that also stopped me from helping more. I wet up the exposed parts and let her back in as she was peeping away at me.
I am supposed to be working all night tonight but seeing as I don't get paid I will be going home at midnight to check on my baby again. I will be headed back there in the early evening hours if I get a chance to.
Sneaky early little buggers! These calls & spotteds were not due until Friday! So I had a few pips yesterday, and last night I had a few more. Only one of the eggs had progressed at 11pm. It was more of a double pip than a zip. So imagine my shock when I got up this morning to an incubator full of wet ducklings. (I have chicks downstairs, so I must have missed the peeping thinking it was the chicks.) Five out so far, 10 more to go. I didn't move them out of the bator before I left for work, and a Brinsea20 doesn't allow much space for photos, so ya'll will have to wait until this afternoon for cuteness!
Emmalion- Come on Isis, your friends want to play! How do the rest of your eggs look?
Jnkir7- So sorry. I will be wondering about that soon, my earliest pipped egg made no progress last night. I'm hoping it will hatch today and save me the decision. "To help, or not to help?"
I understand uping humidity for the last three days, but what about the other eggs in the bator that are a week and two weeks behind the ones waiting to hatch? Guess i should have thought of that before hand. I think i have to make another bator for stagared hatches. Any advice??? Thanks, Angie.
I haven't candled them since yesterday where 3 looked to have internal pips including SheRa the cracked one that the dog stole and dropped. They arnt rocking that I have seen but then again they are kinda propped up in the top of an egg carton with holes cut out for them to rest in. My "due" date isn't until Saturday so Isis is really really early so I am not minding her taking her time. Shes got some absorbing to do I am sure. Peeping and active this morning just not able to turn in the shell but that is to be expected being pipped on the wrong end. Silly girl.
