We just started with ducks last April after listening to our four year old beg for two years. When it got to the point that he was carrying around a stuffed duck, feeding it, tucking it in at night, we knew he was serious. We started with four ducks, 2 round and 2 pekin, that we purchased at TSC. We lost one to a raccoon before putting netting ove

r the kennel. We lost another this weekend to a hawk. Now we have a male Rouen and a male Pekin. Hopefully getting some Cayugas in the spring. Below is the photo of a killer. He flew right in the open door while the ducks were out free ranging.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. I'm sorry about your losses. It's always sad to lose some of our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Be sure and post on our duck section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks, and take advantage of our duck experts there.
Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your ducks.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry for your losses.

Thanks. That bird did not want to get out of the kennel! Our four-year-old has recovered and is now looking forward to getting his new ducks this spring. They have been great for teaching him responsibility and, unfortunately, about the circle of life.
