Hi - we bought a flock recently (2 Toulouse Geese, 1 pair Rouen, 4 Cayuga, 5 Blue Swedish) I believe that 1 Cayuga is female, and 2 of the Blue Swedish are female. Hard to tell if one more is female or not. I need to know how many male ducks to keep. The problem is that our chickens use the pond to drink from, and I am afraid of one of the being drowned by the male ducks. If we only keep 1 or 2 male ducks, with 4 female ducks, do you think they would leave my hens alone?
We want to collect their eggs so need to get them nesting in a permanent place rather than all over.
Also, although the ducks were raised by me, they are not overly people friendly (i.e. - not pets.) They live outdoors all year round. We want to provide them with some sort of shelter for winter, but not a full coop. We live in KS, where it is dry, but WINDY. Any thoughts.... (PLEASE??)
Thanks!
