NEW TO DUCKS

We candled them and the one that PIPed is moving inside. The other three are not really moving inside, but the oxygen sack on the end looks very nice.

Hopefully that means they is still time and they are just being slow pokes.

So the duckling hatched out at 1245 am. When we woke up this morning at 830 he is still "wet" looking. He is moving around a bit but nothing like the last batch where. I am wondering if maybe he hatched early or there is no other duckling for him to interact with.
He looks like an East India/Mallard mix. We have one on our property now and we also saw the East India drake constantly trying to mate with the Mallard female.
Suggestions?

It’s going to take a while for it to fluff you can put it in the brooder if you have it around 90* saying 90 because it’s still wet put something for it to cuddle with like a stuffed animal so it can really snuggle into it. Every hatch is different so hard to judge from one to the next. All you can do now is wait an hopefully as the little one rests and dries it will begin to get its legs under it. Did it hatch with out help?

It was about 50/50 help. I was thinking of getting one of the smaller mallards that hatched last week and putting the two together in a separate brooder. That way the new one has interaction with another duckling.

It’s alert that great!! Try the little Mallard and see what happens might be awesome. I def wouldn’t put the new one in with all the littles. But one would be good to try!

Put the new one with a mallard but she would not lay with the new one and stepped on him several times. We switched the mallard out for a KC and they seem to be doing better. The new one has already taken in some water too

It looks like the KC is playing big sister to the little one.
