New to ducks

Welcome to BYC!

What kind of problems are you having with them?
I posted “Pekin Duck Eye Issue” under Emergencies. She has something white attached to her eye (or maybe it is her eye). I can’t remove it, and she keeps the eye closed a lot.

Sorry to hear she's having problems.

When I'm dealing with eye problems amongst my flock, I start off by performing what's called a "Menace Reaction" this is just to test how well they can see out of the eye, and gives you an idea of the severity of the problem. Simply, move your hand towards her eye and look for a reaction, she should blink or move away, if she doesn't yours should probably see a vet.

If she does have a reaction, I might just assume she scratched the eye and it's gotten a little infected/inflamed. I would flush the eye with either saline or eye wash, then gently wipe off any gunk present around the eye, and finally apply an ophthalmic ointment or gel. With her, I'd highly recommend the brand Terramicyn.

Here is a link to where you can buy it.

Make sure to keep her water as clean as you can (I know how hard that is) to prevent it from getting infected.

Thank you. She is able to react when she has her eye open. I bought some Vetericyn Plus Opthalmic Gel at TSC. I will look into the gel you suggested. I can also see now that the white thing is on the clear eyelid. When she she retracts the clear eyelid I can’t see the white.
