NEW to ducks

Around 20 weeks. Mine have yet to lay they are from this spring hatch and turn 20 weeks at the end of this month. My older ducks started around that time, Maybe around 21-23 weeks i think.

Muscovy ducks are a great breed! They are self sufficient don't quack, and a great show bird and meat bird. You can show both drakes and ducks, they are not the best layers and will give you about 90 eggs a year. The ducks love going broody and are great mothers. Because they are a tropical bird they will need a shelter for winter, but they do very well in the cold snow for a bird that is used to the heat of Brazil! Have a look at them, they are very intelligent and funny birds. Highly recommended from me!

Welcome,
Love me some Cayugas and Welsh Harlequin:

I've ordered all these feathered fertilizer factories from Metzer without a problem. Metzer's website has an informative comparison chart which includes duck calmness level and show quality. I picked Cayugas and Welsh for a variety of reasons, but both are said to be calm birds of above average show quality. Seems accurate from what I can tell. I intend to do the same thing, enter them in a poultry show, especially the male Cayugas with their shiny green heads. Although Metzer's estimation of egg production for Cayugas (130-180 a year) seems a bit low, my older female has been averaging 5 eggs a week. There are 11 other females I expect to begin providing me eggs very soon. I have no intention of eating the birds, but their eggs are delicious.

I would get at least 4, but then I have 22 and am somewhat biased towards a big flock. I bought them straight run and ended up with an even split, but in hindsight I would have ensured a significant female majority, like 75%.

Enjoy,
Rich

I ordered 3 welsh harlequins today and your birds are beautiful

Hi fellow duck obsessed! I have 2 Khaki Campbells and two runner drakes. We just love them but I need some female Khakis and maybe a female runner. Where did you get your Walsh Harlequins those are beautiful ducks? I really need to find other duck people, do you know of any duck groups in our area? Thanks for your help!
