Hello Fellow BYC members! My name is Jon and I live in Placerville CA. I own 5 acres and we currently are in the process of turning the property into an organic farm. I currently have 7 Chickens. 2 Barred Rock Hens (6 months), 2 Black Australorp hens (4 months), 2 Buff Orpingtons (4 months) and 1 Cuckoo Maran hen (3 months). The Barred Rock hens just started laying 3 days ago. Yay! All of our hens are for laying. No broilers yet.
We also have 10 turkeys. 5 Broad breasted Whites and 5 Broad breasted Bronze. One comment I would make about Turkeys, they are expensive to raise organically and very messy. Might be the first and last time we raise turkeys. It was an impulse buy for my friends who requested some Free Range Organic Turkeys for Thanksgiving.
I am excited to learn more and more everyday.
