I'm so excited. I've had chickens off and on for most of my life. But I've never hatched my own (other than under hens). My hubby got tired of hearing me talk about it & ordered my a Brower Top Hatch. I hope it works well for us. We looked at lots of bators & after reading lots of reviews it seemed that this was a decent model for the $$. I just can't wait for it to get here. I will probably play with my own mixed chicken eggs 1st until I get an idea of how it will go. But I really, really, really want to order some eggs of other breeds. Can't wait & my kids are excited too.
My own chickens are 8 Highlines (a hybrid white egg layer), 2 RIR, 2 white/tan hens that lay tan eggs. Those are mixed breed from a local farm & supposed to be a leghorn x. The roos are an americana and a red cochin bantam.
We originally has several more bantam and americana hens plus a leghorn roo but "something" wiped out about half my flock one night. No more freedom at night. We keep them locked in after dark. So now they are just all in together & the chicks we get from those eggs will be anyone's guess.
