Hello! A friend on facebook suggested I join this forum - I rescued a rooster yesterday in Huntington Beach, CA and am at a loss of what to do. He is extremely emaciated and appears to be molting, but his personality is wonderful - very affectionate and trusting. He is eating well and has been acting lively, but this morning when I went out to release him from a cage I'm housing him in, he sounded wheezy and congested (I suspected a respiratory infection of some sort). He also appears to have bumblefoot, although he doesn't seem to favor the leg. I took him to my vet this morning and am waiting to hear back from her - hopefully he'll be ok.
My main problem, if he manages to survive his ailments, is placing him in a proper home or sanctuary. I have worked and volunteered for two local farmed animal sanctuaries (Animal Acres and Gentle Barn) for a year and a half, so I know how difficult it is to place roosters - both of those organizations can not take him. I can't keep him because I'm not zoned for farmed animals and my family is not supportive at all. I'm just looking for advise and maybe some leads on possible forever homes in Southern California.
Thank you
