"new to free range" hens stopped eating layer feed

I make feed available for my free ranging hens in the spring, summer and fall but they hardly touch it. They prefer the bugs and greens. That's the best thing about free ranging. Low feed bills.

That is pretty much the norm.

The most important thing is access to plenty of fresh water for free ranging hens during these months.

Depends on the cats -- we let ours out when they got too cramped in the brooder box, probably 6 weeks or so. Our cat didn't eat any but sure liked stalking & eyeballing them all day (still does). Our cat is pretty small though.

If you're worried about it, 10 weeks is probably better, at that point they're pretty much as big as they're going to get height-wise, from then on they're just "filling out"
