New to geese. What are they good for?

Notifying you when you OR your neighbor has guests.

More effective and entertaining than posting a no soliciting sign.

Random alarm clock. 2AM 4AM 5AM you never know when it will go off.

Great at weeding and getting rid of pesky lawns, gardens, shrubs, ect.

Comic relief.

Goose quills were indeed the standard Bic pen for centuries, and they were also the standard for feathering arrows. Those things plus the grease were worth keeping them for, plus one goose egg is equivalent to a half-dozen of my chicken eggs. And I get 2-5 a day right now.

Plus they are supposed to be VERY good eating.

EVERYONE is scared of them. It's funny because they're such wusses, I guess they can bite hard but if one bites me, when I'm done holding him down and making him know that I'm the one in charge, I might just put a sock on his head!

Hey garliceater, you think they are wusses, do you have a small flock with goslings at the moment? If so,go out to your goose pen get a gosling in your hands and scare it so it lets out a distress call. If you survive come back and tell me again how wussy geese are. You haven't lived until you had one hand holding a gosling while at least 2 geese have your pants in their bills and are flogging your legs with wings. I'm not afraid of them but I have a deep respect for their fighting abilities.~gd

They are great weeders and excellent in the oven. As to the wussy nature of geese: 47 years ago I took my "city girl" fiancee home to meet the family. She was sort of scared of my dogs- beagles maintained in a large concrete bottomed pen. To hasten her "socialization", I grabbed a gosling out of a clutch guarded by Gus the goose and his mate. As I ran towards the Princess gosling in hand with the parents in hot pursuit, she took the lesser of two evils and jumped into the pen with the dogs. It worked.

And she even married me. Life with me has been a lot like that over these 47 years. She's a lucky woman.
