We have been raising chickens for eggs almost 6 years. We started with ISA Browns and Rhode Island Reds but now longer have them. We now have 2 leghorns, 1 Speckled Sussex, 1 Black Astralorp and 1 Mottled Java hens along with or new additions of a rooster that I do not know the type. However, he seems to be relatively a calm rooster. Our coop is too small now but this Thursday we are going to modify the coop and run to add more space. We purchased the coop from a local store when we started with chickens but, as expected, our numbers have increased and requires modification now. We live in zone 6 in Kentucky and we live in a subdivision without a fenced yard so our chickens cannot be left to free rain as we'd like. However, we do let them out for an hr or so when we have the time to be their with them. It's easy getting them back into the chicken run when it is time, all we do is shake the bag of meal worms and they come running.
