Thank you. Does anyone know about getting silkie chicks in northern IL

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your birds! What breeds do you have? Good luck with the coop! I hope it arrives in good condition. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Glad you are enjoying your flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. If have three roosters you need to re-home two of them. The recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As they mature and their hormones kick in, too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason you really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching, and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in this regard. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your coop.

Thank you! That makes sense. The chicken guy we got them from will give us 2 chicks for each rooster. I probably take a rain check as I wanna get this egg thing down.

Help again, I did find silkie chicks. Does the same go for silkie roosters? I know that's probably a stupid question.
Thanks!
