New to Guineas but so in LOVE!!

I love your advitars guinea peeps. Your daughter does a great job with the photoshop. The chicken with the big teeth was halarious too. The guinea in your advitar did you say she is the crippled one? Poor baby I guess she is just trying to pull her load by babysitting the other babies.

The star of most my avatars is my crippled hen, named Pip (short for Pipsqueak because she was really tiny when she hatched). She is 3 years old now and this year is the first year that she has really left the coop to free range with the others. Last year she layed and hatched a few eggs/keets herself but I put about 15 other newly hatched eggs under her from 2 other hens that left the nest before all the eggs were hatched. She accepted and raised them without problem. This year, she did not lay a single egg, so I wondered if she was on strike from being overloaded with adopted keets last year! But she did finally end up finding keets to raise even though she didnt lay any eggs. One of my younger hens hatched 6 keets and Pip immediately sarted to mother them. She layed on them at night to keep them warm, taught them how to free range, and looked after them all the time. She let the younger hen continue to help but Pip definitely took over as the main mother. Although the babies are now several months old, she still really loves them and still continues to look out for them! I think she is a bit of a rare find as far as guineas go. Being handled a lot as a keet when she broke her foot probably contributes to her personality and has made her more of a pet than my other guineas.

Pip sounds so sweet. She has the mother instinct even tho she wasn't the mom this year. She is definately a keeper.

What a sweetie! Pip sounds like a great mamma. You're so lucky to have her and I'm sure she has a special place in your heart. I really like this avatar, but I have to say the chicken with the teeth scared me a bit! Sure wish I had your daughter's knowledge and talent with Photoshop. One of these days, I'll have to try my hand at it. Have a great weekend!

My current avatar of Pip is one that I did myself (after my daughter's clip art inspiration). I used an app on my iPad...I think it was called "Funny Hat Booth" or something like that. It was really easy. All you have to do is download a picture then pick, paste, a fit the hat on the picture. You can come up with all kinds of crazy stuff!

Love it!
