new to hatching ducks, first duckling seems weak.. :(

our first pekin duckling hatched this morning but has been lying flat on the bator. he occassionally wakes up and trots around and falls flat again. is this normal for day one after hatching?

Someone with more experience will hopefully answer you as I'm not sure. I did not experience anything similar with my babies, I do know that it's hard work on the chicks hatching so I'd expected them to lack energy when first born. Fingers crossed for you

Yes...They sleep lots the first 24 hours after hatch...They are still absorbing yolk....I believe by tomorrow it will be doing fine...Provide wet soupy feed and water about 12 hours after Hatch...Also a bowl of Dry feed....

He's ok!!! jumping around. gave him some glucose water...
we are so happy because he was an assisted hatch, didn't disconnect his umbilical cord and i thought he won't make it. worst part was he was the only egg from his mother who suffered a near death attack from a predator. she's ok now after treatment.
he was named Quacky Jr.
