Okay, some of you already know the story but I should tell it again.
I got two mallard duck eggs and put them in the incubator, than I got one other and added it in a week after the other two. Well the first two didn't go over so well (one went bad, the other made halfway out and died in the shell). So, my last and second egg is due to hatch this coming week, I would really love it if I could successfully hatch it out, but I'm only 15 and this is my first time, so please bare with me. -_-
Here's my questions:
1.) Okay the reason my little duckling didn't hatch was of a very tough membrane, meaning low humidity. I have the rings filled, plus six sponges. Last night (when the duckling was still hatching successfully) the temperature was at 100.6F. And yes, I did increase the temp up to 101.5 for the new egg, so the temperature is okay. However at 100.6 F the humidity gauge was showing it at 53%, and today the temp. went down while I was at school to 97.7 F (yes I have realized this guy might not hatch) however, the humidity read at 70%?! So if the temperature is high, the humidity is low? However, now it's still at 70% and the temp. is at 101.5 F, so maybe it will stay, but the humidity doesn't need to be that high yet, so I took out two sponges.
2.) Once the duckling starts hatching, do I keep the temp. at 101, or turn it down?
3.) I think it might hatch early, because when I went in their at 4:30 to remove the excess sponges I picked it up and placed it in it's safe box, and I felt something move inside. Is this normal? I'm on day 21 though. I did freeze and listen but there was no pipped that I heard, however, I'm monitoring it now.
