So I am using my father in laws incubator. A Farm Innovators Model 2100. Reading the instructions, says to disinfect eggs with egg disinfectant. I've never heard of that. What do people use?

Eggs have a natural "bloom" covering that protects from bacteria. If you wash it off you will compromise it. If the eggs have dried poo or dirt on them - just try to wipe with a dry piece of towel paper.

Welcome to BYC!

Maybe the bator is an older model and the instructions outdated? I don't think most people disinfect their eggs (at least not that I've read on here).

Good luck with your hatch!

Thank you all. I'll just wipe them off good. Hoping to set my first batch on Sat. I'm very excited.

I incubated 6 eggs. 5 didn't make it past 1st week. 1 made it to week 3 but I ended up in the hospital and I lost it. I am in a trailer and room temp is very inconsistent. I think that played a major role as to why only 1 was doing well. I'm gonna get a better incubator that isn't as sensitive to room temperature and can self regulate much better. I also bought 2 thermometers/ hydrometer combos. I found that the incubator thermometer is running about 4 degrees high and the hydrometer is off about 15.
