New To Hatching

Mother does know best!:) and when mine was laying on her eggs I didn't bring food to her because I heard from other people that they do get up and find food and such, but I stopped listening to that because she literally stayed there 24/7 and did not get up what so ever and I gave in and brought her some scratch in an egg carton container and some water. But people do say that the hens will find food and will find food for the babies as well. But I'd maybe put it beside her so she can have it there and won't have to disrupt her eggs lol:)

Haha ok I gave her some yesterday, and I'll give her some more today

She will love that!:) also maybe bring her some treats- she will enjoy that! Do you know how long she has been sitting on the eggs? Are they due to hatch soon?

Great to find someone hatching eggs for the first time at the same time! I have a black sex link that has gone broody and just got 12 fertilized eggs today (6 buff orps and 6 light sussex), I've raised chicks before in a brooder, but never with a hen. Very excited!

This is the 3th day she's been sitting on them, so we're not very close at all

. But she's still doing great! How long has your hen been sitting, clairabell75?

I was so excited and wanted to check and see how long it would take, as I knew it was about 3 weeks, but wasn't sure and I found your thread. It'll be exciting to see how many hatch. I'm pretty confident my hen will go the distance, as she has already been sitting on some non-fertile eggs for a week or so and seemed very happy with her egg delivery yesterday! I'll keep checking on her, she has picked a great spot in our smaller, second coop and the other hens don't seem to be going in there at all. It has two levels and she' in the upper, closed in area, with the nest boxes and roost. Underneath is fenced in, so ill be blocking that off when the chicks are due and she will stay inside for a bit, and then when they are hopping around I'll open up the bottom area so that they can go outside, this way I'll know for sure they are protected from the other chickens and our cats. Then eventually they can go out with the other chickens when they are closer to fully grown. This is what I've done with my other chicks that I've raised. I raised them inside and then put them out in the little coop when they had feathered out. Can't wait to see how many hatch & I hope I don't get too many boys

She sounds like she'll be comfortable in her nest

. My hen that's sitting, I have a feeling she'll go through too because she sat on her nest when it was empty for quite a few days before I put eggs under her

. And I took her off the empty nest several times a day every day to try and break her, but she always came back

. Here is a picture of her. Where you can see some of the eggs, will they get too cold? I'm assuming it's ok, but just wanted to check

They will be fine:) beautiful hen by the way!:)

She's so cute!
How many eggs is she sitting on? I gave my hen a dozen, as she was sitting on 14 of her own and seemed to be on top of them all
