I have some questions and I am currently looking the net over searching for answers but this could be faster! I hope

1. Do Peacocks lay yr. round?

2. I have heard that they only mate for 3mo. and then the male tail drops, is this true?

3. Even if they are out of breeding season do the females lay eggs just not fertilized ones?

4. 5 mo. is the earliest you can sex? I have 2 that are almost 4 mo old. One fans out all the time and struts while the other one does not. Does this mean that it could be the dominant male?

5. Do the female chicks fan out also? at that age.

6. If my 5 Blue and 1 White ever breed are those called Blue Pied?

Thanks for all the help....keep me posted! Thanks again!

1. no
2.yes
3. sometimes, no fertile
4.all peafowl fan even peachicks. Can sex alot sooner most by 3 months.
5. all fan
6.No, they would be blues spilt to white, to get pied you must bred pied or white from pied to pieds, or birds split to pieds

Note the bird on the left has bars in the shoulder feather (male) blue. The other is a purple female note lack of bars in feather.

These were bred from a purple peacock X blues hens all chicks could be sex at day old as purple is a sex link color.

Post pic, we maybe able to tell you the sex.

White are harder to sex because they have no color.

Here are the 2 4mo olds, I think they are both boys because on further investigation they are getting their blue and green feathers on their necks....check it out and tell me your opinion! Thanks Deerman for info!

yes two peacocks, the female do get color in their neck. The barring of the back and shoulder feathers, tell the facts. Check the feathers on the two I post pic.

What a shame I really wanted a male and a female. Oh Well!

How is their life span?

25+ years! OMG! That is amazing! I learn so much from reading these posts. Maybe, just maybe, I will be ready one day to add peafowl to our farm.
