Well we are one of the typical people who bought Pheasants and now are scrambling to get an aviary set up for them. My hubby has researched a bit to get him started but one question that I have is: we have I male and 4 female ring neck. Age is unknown but male looks fully mature with beautiful colors all in full bloom. no baby stuff showing. My question is we have a covered caged area in our outdoor chicken area that we are sectioning of. about 7x10 ground area and about 6ft high. all walls will be open and only the roof will be solid. now this is attached to our barn so the is protection from winds from the north. should there be areas in coop that are covered, like small huts so they can hide in? The girls are starting to lay now in their temporary home but the eggs get broke before we can get to them. I haven't seen if it is the male or females doing the dirty deed. We looked up nesting boxes and my concern is how much wind protection do they need?

Hi my names Jackson also if ur raising ring necks don’t worry about the wind they have more feathers on them to keep them warm since they are made to stand colder climates and also i noir ice the best time to get eggs is at night because my female will burry her eggs during the day and will un burry them at night to brood on them so just a pointer

You only have to worry about the winds in the winter. They don't need a fully covered pen in the winter, just a place where they can get out of the drafts. For now a covered roof is good so it keeps their pen dry.Ringnecks tend to lay anywhere, but try putting some branches in the corners. They may use them for nesting, and they will definitely use them to hide behind.
