Hi my name is Jo Ann and I have one mallard female. We rescued her from a pond, her mother was rejecting her and later we found out why. She has a birth defect, one of her wings grew up instead of naturally. We built a pond and enclosure for her but we are having trouble now that she is about a year old. She quacks all of the time and we are worried our neighbors will complain. I cannot let her out to roam because I have cats and worry they will harm her. Is the quacking normal or is she just wanting out? I love her and do not want to have to re home her because of my neighbors.

I'm new too, but

. Good luck with your duck adventures. I own three mallard ducks. She may be quacking because she is lonely and wants a friend. Could you get another mallard duck from somewhere to be with her?

I agree with duckopolis - I think she misses being around other ducks. If your neighbors cause you serious problems - maybe a wildlife rescue would take the duck because I don't think she could survive in the wild.

X3 She is lonely. You will either want to get her another duck friend or find someone that keeps ducks and give her away. You might want to chat with others in your state to see if anyone nearby you can help you out with this situation...
