new to raising quail Help :/

That what I thought about 50% figured since I have to use the miss prissy chic o bator I might not have great temps. Although I have had a 83% hatch on one and 53% on another for Chickens. I hatched out 7 chicks and 6 ended up roosters. talk about a bad straight run lol

ha ha awh!!!! I hope you have an 83% hatch on the coturnix it'd be awesome! ANd i promise you if you do, they wont all be males cept one lol! I've always had a decient number of both. ofcourse always more males but several females too no matter the hatch number maybe i've been lucky though!?!?! thats only on quails though. i havent sucessfully hatched chickens yet (working on it now) and we'll see what i get with that lol!

I do the dry method with all my eggs it's just easier that way for me. As for the carton method I havent had any luck with taht method so far BUT I believe the problem was my incubators fluctuating temps not the position of eh eggs tha tcuased hte problems I had been having.

I will technically be doing the carton method with all my eggs from now on since I have them in an automatic turner, so i'll just unplug it when its' time to stop.

I don't have a turner I use wood and prop the who thing from side to side. With the chickens I can use my turner I made (manual). I been doing this now for only a year got a hair one day and decided to try and hatch some chicks and made the bator from medical waste that I got from my hospital and gave it a try. Our first hatch was 2 out of 6 and I dropped one of them during candleing . We got tyson and banquet our first 2 chicks Both rir hens.

interesting!!! Sorry about droping them! i do that way too much! Luckily somehow they dont crack. Or the one that did crack, was just put in the same day (i droped one that was "older" on it) so i wasnt too sad

My incy is 75% homemade (the heating element is from an old incy though) so half of it is an automatic turner the other half is an area that i use to put my cup of water in, and also a tiny box taped to a pen that I use as a hand turner
