I'll be adding this beautiful Silkie hen and another silkie younger chick to my flock. I've mostly had EE and other larger breeds. Is there anything special I need to know for having silkies?

This last picture is of the same hen just younger. Im so in love with her!

So beautiful,
Trim their cheeks and head so they can see all the way around , watch for hairs poking their eyes. Buy blunt nose scissors.

Trim their nails and make sure feet are clean .

They are often bullied , I had mine in the big coop for less then two weeks before we have them their own coop.

Don’t hold them by your face , my silkie rooster pecked my cheek today , good things my cheeks are so round and strong .

Have fun, I love my silkies too

Thank you so much for the tips! I heard they need higher protein in their diets vs regular hens is that true?

Here they are! I ended up bringing this sweet 4 month old Roo home with her as well! I couldn't say no he is so sweet.
Grey is the hen Rowena and the white is the Roo Neville. All my hens have Harry Potter themed names lol

I love my Silkie insanely! :love
I got her as an afterthought and really didn’t expect much.
She’s 3 months old now.
She’s amazing!
The best forager by far.
Totally smart and no pushover.
In fact Silkie never has gotten bullied and she even pecks the two younger bantam Cochin pullets sometimes.
She was raised with 5 large fowl rowdy Naked Necks; three of them cockerels!
She’s one tough cookie!

Silkie had kicked Pippin and was staring at her so she’d stay away.

My breeder said to increase their protein , I chose to add sprouted lentils to their diet rather then buying another food .. mine are on layer with 18% protein ( I think),

We just added a rooster a year old named Carlos , the girls have accepted him and have stopped screaming !! Egg laying has gotten back to normal

*update*
Everyone is getting along amazingly now! Neville is starting to take his roll as Rooster and find his voice. Literally the quietest crow I've ever heard. He is starting to grow in random brown and black feathers, whaaaaat color would you call him? He is also

the sweetest boy ever. Rowena aka Coco is also doing great and loves cuddles, when she wants lol. She also has laid an egg every other day. My Easter Eggers are getting so big too !
