Rule of thumb is 4-5 sq.feet per bird inside the coop not including nest boxes or roosts, so you really need a larger coop for 8 hens. Birds that are crowded tend to peck, pull feathers and even resort to cannibalism. Chickens are not as demure as some people might think (like me). Outside run should allow 10 sq.feet per bird.
