New to site and raising chickens

First time chicken farmer. Built a 6 x 12 chicken tractor. bought 4 blackstar pullets, 2 weeks later neighborhood roaming dog bullied his way into coop and killed all four. reinforced coop, bought 3 blackstar pullets, 2 barr rock pullets, and was given a barr rock rooster. the blackstars are older and getting pretty big now, I thought they might start laying soon. I called the seller and he said they were 6 months old, but his blackstars didn't start laying until 8-9 months. any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks

I've had Golden Sex Links (equivalent of red stars) and they started laying at 5-6 months. Sorry I can't help you too much there.

Howdy and welcome to BYC!! I would think it would be closer to 5-6 months rather than 8-9 months. I thought blackstars were early and prolific layers. Best of luck to you!!
