Hi all! I'm a born and raised Nova Scotian who has ended up here in Northern BC and finally have the land to have started a smallholding! My fiance is mainly interested in chickens for egg purposes and I am hoping to have some meat as well. We were lucky enough to have moved in beside a lady who has been raising chickens for years but only for eggs. She gave us some Welsumer roosters a few months back because she knew I was interested in meat and, though it was not the easiest thing to do, I did slaughter them and they are currently in the freezer. I currently have 2 ISA browns who have matured and are producing an egg a day each and they're such nice birds! 2 Buff Orpingtons who are still a bit young to be laying, a female Jersey Giant who is not yet laying as well as a Blue Jersey Giant rooster who is just such a great leader for the flock. He's so nice to the hens and doesn't bully at all! Also raising some chicks that my neighbour didn't want; 2 white leghorn x Copper Maran and an unknown! Having so much fun and this site has been of so much help over the past months! Thanks to everyone and I'm so happy to finally become a member! Can't wait to learn even more from you all!
