Sorry, I don't think there's a way to prevent the water from freezing without electricity.
 
I gave all my birds (quail and chickens) a small amount of scratch today and it was too funny and incredibly beautiful all at the same time! A few of the 7 week silkies came out and as I peeked around the corner my biggest white one froze and looked at me with a small piece of corn hanging from its beak lol and as for my quail they were all singing in unison! I never knew raising birds could be so rewarding and exciting and beautiful all at the same time!
