Hello all...

I have my first flock of six hens (although one may be a roo... pending verification at some point <sigh>). Am I crazy to have six different breeds? My flock includes: Buff Orpington (the one who is possibly a roo), Easter Egger, Salmon Favorelle, Golden Comet, Partridge Rock (which I got by accident instead of a Speckled Sussex, and a Barred Rock. I have three more chicks arriving next month. Like the lady at the hatchery said... "Chickens are like chips... you can have just one, or two, or four..."

Happy to be here! What a great community!

Welcome to BYC! That's a nice mixed flock you have. Golden Comets are egg laying machines and I especially like the beautiful feathers and calm, gentle temperament of the Buff Orpingtons. Good luck with your flock.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have put together a nice flock! Good luck with the new chicks!

Thank you! She's definitely the quiet one of the group...

My Buff is extremely sweet but also VERY developed (and giving a pitiful crow many mornings). I'm thinking she's a roo and not a hen. <BIG SIGH> Hatchery says she can still be a SHE... even after I sent a video of 'her' crowing. I'd hate to part with her/him...

Anyhow... thanks for the kind welcome!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Cute avatar you have! X2 on the link Two Crows provided.

If it looks like a roo, acts like a roo, and crows like one - pretty sure it's a cockerel. Maybe the hatchery is just in denial. Hope your others are girls. Welcome to BYC, glad to have you.

Hello and Welcome! I also say you more than likely have a roo, but close pictures of comb and body will help to identify in the what gender thread. Good luck and keep calling the hatchery if it is a he. :) Oh! mixed flocks are great, I have six breeds of my own and looking for one more to add for the year. I did have two other breeds early this year too.
