Hello,
I am new to the chicken world. I moved to Kentucky to retire (will retire in June - whoohoo!). I have always wants a place to be with animals. I thought I would begin with chickens and move on from there. I am new to everything to do with "farming". But, I am a dedicated learner.
I do not have any chickens yet. I would like to get some chicks this spring. I need to build a coop and I am very interested in open air coops.
I bought a book that I thought would have plans, but it really doesn't. I found this site by googling plans for small open air chicken coops.
I have also been watching youtube channels on chickens.
I am excited to get started.
I am also beginning to learn how to keep bees. I am signed up to attend an all day session with Kentucky State University on BeeKeeping.
I am looking forward to learning from you. Thank you so much for having this site.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

You will be able to find everything here. Just check the Article tab and you'll find the index on the left. The Forums tab is another good place to learn a lot seeing what others post in the applicable forum you're interested in.

If you can't find something or have a question, just find the forum to ask in or ask us here. Totally make yourself at home!

Don’t have any birds yet, huh?
I would highly recommend that you start with Plymouth Barred Rock, Australorp, Americana/EE, and Orpington chicks. Those are typically the most docile birds, although chickens are all individuals with their own personality.
DONT start with RIR. they may be sold as “docile”, but in my experience they are more prone to aggression, although like I said, each bird has its own personality.
