Howdy, I'm brand new to chicken raising. I know nothing about chickens. My grandparents raised them when I was a kid. All I know is, is that my 3 kids eat alot of eggs. So I built a chicken pen and just bought 2 pullet hens and they've hatched 5 eggs already. But I can't get them to lay them in the coop I built. They just lay them on the ground. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Have you looked at our Learning Center yet? Loads of good chicken keeping info and tips there. What you can do with your mislaying hens is place some gold balls or fake eggs in the nest boxes to make them more attractive and also make sure the boxes are semi-dark and private. Some found hanging a little curtain over the box helps.

Hello & welcome to BYC. Lots of great info in the learning center as previously stated above ^ , My white leghorns did the same thing when they first started laying but then started using the nest box on there own.

I was going to say, from everything I have read, they like it dark and private, and that luring them with a false egg can sometimes do the trick, as they think that if another hen thought laying there was a good idea, they might as well also. I have also read that making sure the coop is clean and comfy can help. Good luck from another newbie!!
