OK evidently I need some time off to spend with my chickens! I stated I had 3 reds when actually I have 2 black Austrolop and 1 Red. Wow, I'm a rookie! Anyhow this is a pic.
Thanks everyone, who knew chicken lovers were such a kind Krewe ! Been on some fishing forums in which one would get lambasted for rookie questions. Thanks look forward to reading all kinds of good info.
Anyone who lambasts a rookie in any field of endeavor for asking questions is an, oh well, you know what kind of bitter hole they are. Where do they think the information gets into one's head, osmosis?
That said, there are those who are much too easily offended if straightforward advice is given. Seemingly because it conflicts with what they wanted to hear.
So I crushed some oyster shell to almost a powder and placed in coop. The chickens nearly ate all of it 4-5 oz. approx. Is this showing they are calcium
Deficient?
Possibly. But a day or two of that and they may have replaced what came out of their bones.
The oyster shell is better as large particle, similar in size to adult (#3) grit. That way it spends more time in the upper digestive tract and contacts the calcium absorption sites in the intestine at night and while the egg is in the shell gland.
