New to the chicken life!

Hello and welcome to BYC

Here’s a good link where you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You can have any number of chickens and still get some eggs, as long as they are hens. If you want 6 eggs a day then you should get 6 chickens. Although, this would change depending on the breed you want. Some breeds lay 7 eggs a week, some lay 6 a week, some even lay just 3 or 4 a week.

I just shared this chart with someone else and thought you may find it useful too:

Do check in with other members on your state thread, they'll be a good resource for which breeds do best in your climate, predators you need to be aware of, etc.

Best wishes!
