Hi! My husband and I recently decided to quit our "jobs" and move across our state to start a homestead lifestyle. We are taking things slowly and will be getting chickens in the spring. We want to start with 6-8 chicks and concentrate on them and our garden next summer. We are so excited to begin this lifestyle and connect with others that are raising chickens.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Wow, that's quite a step you've made but must be so exciting!

Here's our Learning Center where you'll find oodles of articles our members wrote about raising chicks and chickens.

We've got a DIY-Self-Sufficiency thread here you may like.

We also have a couple of sister sites you may be interested in too:

We're glad you're here!

Wow! That is a step. Good luck.

Sounds like adventure awaits! The plan to add chickens in the spring gives you time to research breeds and housing, and to locate a vet who will see poultry, if at all possible -- a task better done before it's needed.

Of course, you can't be prepared for EVERYTHING. Often, however, folks here at BYC can steer you in the right direction. There's a lot of knowledge among members of this community.

Welcome to BYC; please let us know when you get chicks! And, best wishes with your new lifestyle ☺️
