Hi All,

I am new to Chicken keeping. I obtained my first two Buff Brahma bantams 5 weeks ago and it has been an awesome experience so far! I have a pair, Jethro and Jazzy. The roo is very protective of his hen and they both follow me around the yard!! Of course they have learned by now that I am the primary caretaker since I clean the coop and feed them. :)

I have referred to this site for the last few months and I am excited to be a member and connect with other chicken lovers in my area!

Hi!

I have read that at least 3 is best. Unfortunately, the gentleman I bought these from did not have another hen of the same breed available. I am looking for another one, but it is turning out pretty tough. In the spring I am expanding my flock for sure when my shed is remodeled into a coop for them. There seems to be a need for heritage breeds around here, so I might dabble in that! :)

Thanks for writing!

Hi Maria,

I live in Barnesville, about an hour south of Scranton! :) Right off of 81.

Do you attend any poultry shows in the Scranton area? I've never been before, but would love to next summer. I am highly fascinated with the different breeds of chickens. Before starting my research on getting my own, I had no idea there were so many different breeds available. What kind of chickens do you have?

Hi Caroline,

Thank you so much! I just feel in love with them the second I saw them!

Hi Liz,

Thank you for writing. I am planning on expanding my flock in the spring, but should I think about doing it now? I surely do not want to see her get hurt.
