Hi, I am a relatively new chicken farmer. I have 8 chickens and as of 9 months of laying, I have gotten 1075 eggs from those 8 girls! I wonder if they get bored as they only have a small area to peck, I can't let them out due to dogs and lots of predator animals. In live in Southwest Colorado. I'd love to hear any suggestions. Hello & welcome to BYC. What kind of chickens do you have? Mine do ok in the coop/run but they always want out to hunt & eat bugs. I understand the predator issue on your end. You can expand your chicken run to give them more space, give them veggie scraps, worms, bugs for treats. Best of luck with your flock.

Hello and welcome.....so glad you joined BYC

I have to extend one of my runs too. Think I am going to try the "cattle panel-hoop coop" method. I just love the curved top on them.

Good luck to you

! Happy to have you with us! I agree with DDNONIN - a portable chicken tractor is a good idea! Best wishes!

You could hang a cabbage in the run for them to peck, or some apples. Chicken entertainment usually involves some kind of food!

I have Austrolorps, a Baird Rock, an Americana, and 3 black ones I can't remember their breed. All very nice but they are starting to peck at the younger ones. Ilike the idea of the cabbage hanging. I feed them everything I can find in the garden and kitchen but it seems they are still not totally happy. I feed them Layena and the some scratch made locally that is rich in grains. This is a great site!
