new to the chicken world

Welcome to BYC. Don't forget when you build your coop, it's 4 sq. ft. per hen in the coop. and 10 sq. ft per hen in the run. I have baard rock, isa browns and golden laced wyandottes. they are really calm birds and good layers. But so are a lot of other birds. Check the stats on the birds you choose for your climate, egg results, being broody, etc. for the best results for your needs.

Sex links are made for good laying. I have 4 (two red sex links and two black sex links) and I really don't care for any of them. They aren't friendly like my barred rocks.
