Hi all!

New-ish chicken family here! Our girls will be a year old in September and we’ve had quite that adventure so far with them! We started out with 10 8 week olds (we weren’t confident in doing the brooder/chick set up, then adopted 4 teenagers, and then decided a few weeks ago to get chicks so we got 7 more littles.

Everyone joked about chicken math and I said “no we’ll be fine with our 10…” oops… haha

My 2 small children (6 & 3) LOVE our chickens! The girls all have names and are probably my 3yr olds biggest fans. He’s the treat provider so it only makes sense that he’s their favorite human.

We initially decided on chickens so we could “save on buying eggs”, boy were we’re silly in our thinking! We do love the eggs but these girls have completely become pets and we spoil them rotten. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

Welcome! I'm new around here and to chickens as well. I second the "no, chicken math won't get me" thing, lol.

We got everything in order to get our babies. My husband built the coop and I got everything else we'd need ordered and rounded up. We ordered 4 BBS Orpingtons to arrive in September, plus 2 extras that Meyer will send. And I was content knowing that my 6 new chicks will be here before long.

And then we went to TSC for dog food on Saturday, and those bantams... I brought home 4, lol. Chicken math got me before I ever got my first chickens! But I'm in love with my new babies, and don't regret a thing. Neither do my kids!
