Hi there!

My family and I are new to chicken keeping. We got six chicks (hens) about 6 weeks ago. The kids and I picked out 3 White Leghorns and 3 Production Blues. The Tractor Supply we got the chicks for said the Production blues were dual purpose birds ans a mix breed but the store's personnel couldn't give me breed names. So far, we have gotten a kick of the personalities that the girls have. Seems funny that I never considered prior to this that chickens would have personality. My other hobbies are keeping houseplants and gardening. Though my garden has suffered from lack of attention, I know that now with the Giggens (what my 2yrs calls the chickens) I'll spend more time out there. We got two dogs and two cats and three kids, so full house! Found BYC on Instagram and used the forums to convince my husband into getting the girls. Decided to join since it was so successful! :yesss: Also, great information on here.

Hi @GiggenGirls
Welcome! Your kids will love having the new pets and gathering those eggs! :weeJust be sure they wash hands thoroughly after visiting the coop or holding the girls. :jumpy And never kiss a chicken! :love Salmonella risk is real. :barnie
Have fun with your pullets! Guard against predators. My first flock of Buff Orps (4 month old) fell victim to a neighbors Aussie Dingo while they were grazing in the yard. Hard lesson learned. :hit
Good luck and get that coop ready for more chicks! Warm weather is your friend when it comes to brooder climate. :thumbsup
