Hello Friends
I am a few years into Chicken loving, and have lost a lot of chickens to dogs, cats, opossums, fox, minks, you name it... and now feel like I have a better sense of the needs of chickens and am ready to invest in heritage breed birds.
This being said...
I have no idea what toe punching is, or if I need to be breeder qualified... or whatever else I have yet to stumble across. What the heck?!
Maybe I'm not ready for this...
Anybody wanna throw me a bone?

Hello and welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do. I too have no idea what toe punching is!! Hopefully someone can enlighten us!
@BaHCoaaack! So glad to have you join us here at BYC! I'm sorry fro your previous losses, but hope the new birds go very well for you!! Toe punching is a way for breeders to help identify their stock, I don't recommend doing it unless you have quite a few birds, leg bands are much more in my favor, but hey that's just me.
I BELIEVE in your chicken keeping skills, go for it!!!

We are glad you joined our flock.
