Sorry about your losses to predators. We free range. We've got a forest behind us and farmer fields on the other three sides. We lost one every few months our first year. Then we bought a half dozen solar motion lights, security cameras (Blink), wind spinners, and two dogs. Since that first year eight years ago, we haven't lost one to a predator.

We know it could still happen though.
 
Welcome to BYC fellow Tennessean! We definitely have quite a few predators down here, I too only have one bird left from my original flock (almost eight years old!) after a few years of trial and error with predator proofing. I have found hawks to be the main issue during the day time, thankfully the crows are quite insistent lately that they stay away.
