Hello there! I'm Saorise (pronounced ser-shuh). Of course, that's an internet alias. My real name isn't nearly as cool.
Alrighty, now to answer the introduction questions.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Unfortunately, I don't have any chickens at the moment. I'm not new to chickens though. I've had at least four over the course of my lifetime. Unfortunately the coop I kept them in wasn't as secure as I thought, and miss fox had decided that she wanted a midnight snack for her kits. I was afraid of what would happen to the others, so I gave them away to a friend who could take better care of them than I ever could've. The sad thing is, they weren't even fully grown yet. I had them for a short period of about six weeks, and this was about 10 to 12 years ago. So as you can imagine, my chicken knowledge has faded quite a bit. I'm still eager to relearn though!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, unfortunately. I'm living with my mother right now who isn't the biggest chicken person. Once I move out I'll get myself some cute little chicks though.
(3) What breeds do you have?
See above haha. If I were to pick though, I'd love to have Gold Laced Polish, Silkie, Easter Egger, and Rhode Island Red.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So many things. But if I had to pick one, I'd say the fact that they bring your yard to life. I used to sit outside for hours watching my chicks and their shenanigans as they scratched the ground, ate bugs, chased eachother around, etc.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I don't have too many but I do enjoy birdwatching, archery, and photography.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family? Not important. All chicken haters haha. I'm currently jobless (hence why I'm living with my mother) but I'm working on getting something part time. I still have schoolwork to do after all. I live with a few animals (technically aren't mine) but my one and only companion and best friend is my Peach Faced Lovebird. She's actually sleeping on my shoulder as I'm typing this. She's so intelligent for such a little bird. She does things that, to my knowledge, isn't typical parrot behavior just for the sake of getting my attention. But yeah, if you couldn't already tell, I LOVE this bird.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've known about if for a while now, mostly by googling chicken/bird related questions. Finally decided to get off my butt and join today. I've got nothing better to do these days haha.
