Hi there,
I'm a brand new member here but not new to raising chicks (although there is always so much left to learn). I'm 32 and originally from Franc but have ben giving in Florida for 12 years now.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not very new but definitely no expert. I started having chickens 3-4 years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently have 4 older hens and 6 five weeks old chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Red, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, Welssummer, and Black Copper Marans. I also have two black hens that I don't know the breed of.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Their fresh eggs is at the top of the list but hubby and I love sitting outside and watching our "chicken TV." Chickens are so relaxing and entertaining.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, gardening, pruning my roses.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
1 German Shepherd Dog and 2 cats
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been reading BYC for a while. For the first time this year I got straight run chickens. They are also from "fancier" breeds. I thought chickens were pretty much all the same and it turns out I couldn't be more wrong. Looking forward to learn even more from the wealth of knowledge BYC brings to the community!
EDIT: I included the pictures of my chickens and their coop. The hens roam free and provide the best entertainment. Plus they're super sweet, no nonsense and super soft (they let me pet them once in a while haha). The babies are staying indoors for now. I lost a baby one last week and have me worried a lot but they seem happy and healthy. They're growing well too. I got straight run this time because I wanted fancier birds and I might end up with 4 roosters out of the 6...
