Aaaw, she is a cutie! My FIL had a spoodle who sadly passed away a few years ago, his name was Inu:

I hope you have an awesome time over the ditch!
Such a cutie! I'm sorry he passed. I'm sure I'll need a padded room when Ainsley goes. I'm so attached to this dog- it's crazy!

I've never hear it called "the ditch"....that's awesome! I may make the jump across one day, I would love to see so many things there, but my luck the cute ones would be venomous and it would be my last adventure. I attempted to pet a buffalo once and my husband that it was going to ram his truck. In my defense they are amazing and was right outside my window, but for a ton beast they move quick!

Greetings from a forum noob, southerner transplant in northwest Ohio, fellow IT professional, and new "step" parent of a 7-yr old and 13-yr twins. My own children are 20 and 12 so I started over but I am loving the decision. Good luck with your flock. I too grew up canning, making pickles, fermenting, and I still do those things along with raising my own gardens, but chickens are brand new.
That's awesome! I have found that being an IT person as and adult and returning to some farming that I now want to automate so much. Fresh raspberry pis arrived today to program for automatic doors and shutter opening on the coop and a weather detection drip watering control for the garden- bwahahahaha.
I really want to set-up a light on the outside of the coop that says "occupied" or something when a hen enters the nesting boxes- more for a giggle than practical purposes of course. We are still framing wall, but the electronics are already arriving- typical geek reaction, but we enjoy it.
I haven't fermented before, but I've read a lot about the benefit to fermenting feed for the flock. I might have to give that a go. I started collecting plastic tray to set-up a drip sprout growing section in the green house. Then there is the want of a meal worm farm, but worms creep out the hubs so I'm holding off for a while on pushing that.
It's so funny to me that when I was younger I couldn't wait to get off the farm, now I am inching my way back to it. No hay fields, I refuse to bale anymore hay- ever!
I need to find a "straw guy" for the coop needs. Unless anyone has a better suggestion.
