Hey everyone, my name is Tyler. I live in Idaho, USA and have decided to make an account here as I love browsing the forums for all kinds of good information.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is our first year with chickens. They are probably around 8 weeks old now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 12 but we have 4 that are for sure roosters going to a new home tomorrow. We hoped to have between 6-8 hens.

(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 7 brown leghorns (of which 4 are roos), 3 ameraucana, one that is a cross between the two and one buff/lavender orpington mix.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

We love how interactive the chickens are. We are looking to become a bit more self sufficient and it will be nice to have eggs from a source that we know is well taken care of and fed good foods.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Some other hobbies for me include gardening, woodworking and building things. I really enjoy figuring out how things work and making my own versions for fun. Recently I made my own little plow and a tool that will help me make 10 equally spaced lines in my gardens at a time. I have also been enjoying making rabbit hutches for fun and new homes for my coturnix quails.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My wife and I have a few pets. We have two dogs, one is my wife's childhood dog (I think 18 years old now) and the other is a Great Pyrenees. We also have jumbo Coturnix Quails (1 male, 2 females right now) and I am currently incubating some more of their eggs. I have a rather large fish tank but don't have it running currently. Last time I used it I had a big saltwater tank filled with corals. It's a 6 foot long 125 gallon tank. I have considered doing freshwater with it or maybe turning it into an aquaponic setup. It's been on the back burner for a while so who knows when I will get to it again lol.

I am also an elementary school teacher. I love my job working with the kids. This year we have chickens and quail, I would like to get some rabbits soon and one day also grow pheasants, turkeys, and/or ducks lol. I am trying to see if I can get a few acres of land for next year to raise some cattle but we will see.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I found this site when I started looking up info about chickens and quail. Really enjoyed using this place for info and love browsing. Figured I would make an account so that if I ever see a question that I can help answer, I can do that lol.
