Hi and welcome to the world of chickens and protecting them. It looks as if you have done your homework. I read in another post of yours that you are also interested in buckeyes. If you would like more info on them and to be able to get in touch with some breeders, check out our link at www.americanbuckeyeclub.org. It will also have links to other sites of ours as well. Good luck with your bear hunting and keeping your chickens and family safe.

Howdy EternalHeritage, Welcome from Texas. We have had problems with coyotes, bobcats, hawks, owls, raccoons, opossums, skunks, snakes and neighbors dogs, but we haven't never had to deal with a bear!!! Good Luck filling your tag. You might set up a deer camera. We would love to see pictures of your bear.

We don't have a deer camera. Last November was the first time I've ever gone hunting for deer - we're newbies when it comes to hunting. We moved here from the suburbs in Western Washington. So we don't have many hunting equipment - we're slowly building it up though.

We do have a picture of the bear but I took it with my camera and all you can see is a brown blur. I'll see if I can post it... Believe it or not but I was about 20-25 feet away from the bear when I took this picture. My phone camera isn't the best in quality pictures. You can't see the head because it had just put its head down at that exact moment I snapped the picture. We think it's a cinnamon phased black bear. If it comes around again this year, I'm going to take a good look at it now that I know the difference between a grizzly and black bear. If it's a grizzly, hopefully our electric fencing will do the trick in deterring it.

Thank you! I will definitely check out the Buckeye club! I don't have any experience showing poultry but it seems like more and more people are starting to breed towards the APA (did I say that right?). I raise rabbits too and some of them are from show lines - while I don't show very much anymore, I certainly see the benefits of breeding to the standard for rabbits.
