Hi all! We brought home 8 chicks yesterday! I'm new to the chicken game so any tips are welcome!
As of right now they are in a dog crate with feeder, water and heat lamp in our garage.
How long do I have to get a coop built?
Also how critical is it to maintain a hot temp for them 90 F. It gets in the 40s at night but the heat lamp does stay on! Will they be good for now?
Thanks for any advice!

Hello and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us and congratulations on getting your chicks.

I'd say you have 4-5 weeks to get a coop built - time to get your finger out, I'd say

Temperatures should be gradually reduced as the chicks get older. These links should give you some useful information:

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224
