(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes! my wife and I live on her century family farm. we are the 6th generation on this farm (our 2 children being the 7th generation).
We got our chicks about 3 weeks ago!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We decided to start with 9 and will see how things go! maybe get a few more in the spring!
(3) What breeds do you have?
we have 2 green eggers, 3 sapphire gems's , 3 gold laced wyandotts , and a red sexlink
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
so far it has been the excitement our children have for them!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My wife and I raise a unique breed of cattle on our farm. We raise Belgian Blue cattle (the association has now changed the name to American Blues). I spend a lot of my free time doing hands on work around the farm and I have a great passion for bowhunting whitetail deer in the fall!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live on my wife's century farm in NW Iowa. We have 2 children, a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Like mentioned we have a small cow/calf herd and a couple of horses (my wife has rodeo'd most of her life). we have a mini aussie that was our "first child" we got before we got married and an 8 month old great pyrenes. I work full time at a plastics injection molding company where I have been a maintenance technician for the last 10 years post graduating college. My wife is a very active Real estate agent in our small community. I look forward to combing through the threads for information and guidance! We are super excited to be chicken owners!
