New to the group, looking for ground cover ideas.

New to the group and raising chickens, I have just finished my coop and looking for ideas for ground cover in the run. I live in northwest Indiana and it gets pretty windy in our area. Thanks Kris

Welcome to BYC! I live in south central Indiana and I use straw for the run floor and keep it deep.

No problem. I’ve never used sand before in my 10 years of chickens not had my parents in their 40 years of chickens. Others have used it here though.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens do not use sand here either plain old ground

Aged ramial wood chippings are the best base IMO for managing manure.
Can toss other stuff in there in moderation, takes some practice of observation and adjustment.
