Sometimes they just die.:( Here is another reason...
Coccidiosis
Coccidiosis is caused by a protozoa, and is the most likely cause of death for young birds, especially around 3-6 weeks old. The protozoa live in the intestines of almost all birds, but gradual exposure builds up their immunity. Infection is common around 3 weeks old because it has built up in the brooder faster than the bird’s immunity. There are however several different species, so when you bring birds from different sources together, they can cross infect each other with strains they are not immune to. Infections can also happen because of poor cleanliness, or if the chicken’s immune system is suppressed by stress.

Not fun time for you sorry to hear about your loss. I would try medicated food and add probiotics to the water. Someone with more knowledge may be able to help you better. This is my best guess.

Jump right in and make yourself at home.

I am sorry for your loss.
A few things could have happened.
Chick was just a failure to thrive chick.
Your brooder was too hot.
It wasn't eating.
It got a pasted up butt.
It got trampled.

Thank you. I am feeding medicated food and have probiotics and electrolytes in the water. Hoping not to lose anymore.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and I do so very much hope that your loss was an isolated incidence :fl
