Hello, I'm new to the forum. I've read through a lot of the threads in the past week and for the most part everyone seems nice and quite knowledgeable, so I can't wait to start chatting with people. I'm from Ontario in Canada and I've owned button quails for about 6 months now. Ours are indoor pets and are pretty spoiled. They have a big cage with a 4 section feeder (laying game bird food, oyster shells, insects, and fruits and veggies), a water bowl, a hamster running wheel which they love using (so cute to see them running in it), a grass hidey-hut, sitcks and natural grass balls to move around and a scratching area for their nails. I am a little concerned though, They seem to have everything they need and they get good sun for at least 6 hours, filtered sun for at least a few more and we keep the light above them on until we go to bed at night ( so I think that's enough light)... but my female still hasn't laid an egg since I've had her. The only thing I can think might be stopping her is that we have a cat and his litter box is nearby. They are up on a table and our cat is a very lazy persian that NEVER jumps up on anything but the couch, so I know that he isn't directly bugging them in any way. Do you guys think the smell of a nearby predatory animal would be enough to stop her from laying? Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
